Linux mint 21 / Video shows white screen
Surfreak:
Dear all,
my operating system is linux mint 21. Just tried to play an *.mkv File with JRiver MC30 and a get a white screen. The timeline is shown and also the sound is played.
Do you have any ideas about that?
Best regards,
Reinhard
Awesome Donkey:
This sounds like a graphics driver-related sort of thing. What kind of graphics does your system have? Using a proprietary driver? Open-source Mesa driver?
Surfreak:
Thank you for your fast answer. I'm using an AMD R9 Graphiccard. This is the info from my linux:
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Tahiti PRO [Radeon HD 7950/8950 OEM / R9 280] vendor: Hightech Information System
driver: radeon v: kernel pcie: speed: 8 GT/s lanes: 8 ports: active: DP-1,DP-2
empty: DVI-D-1,DVI-I-1,HDMI-A-1 bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:679a
To be honest, i didnīt expect under linux, that there could be a driver problem. I know this only from win installations.
Do you have a recommendation, what driver to use? I had a look at the AMD website, but the linux driver is very old.

As a test can you try toggling which video renderer JRiver uses under Options-->Video settings? Do you see the same result with JRVR and the legacy OpenGL backend? The results of that test might provide useful info.
Also does theater view work as expected or does it also show a white screen?
Surfreak:
Wow! These are really fast answers!
I tried with JRVR and OpenGL Backend - with and without hardware support, doesnīt change anything. Also I tried the theater mode for the first time, it is also not working.
