Linux mint 21 / Video shows white screen
mwillems:
So just to be clear, I'm not a dev, I'm just a linux user like you!
In the past when I've seen the white screen it was usually because either my graphics card or my desktop environment didn't support the correct color depth or my graphics card had some other hardware acceleration limitations. If neither backend works and theater view doesn't work that sounds like the situation you're in.
Your graphics card is a relatively old model, but I would've expected the old OpenGL backend to work on it. I assume you're using Cinnamon as your desktop environment? I've sometimes seen weird issues with Cinnamon involving hardware accelerated video, do you have any of the other DE's for Mint installed (like XFCE) that you could test with?
It might also be worth posting the output of glxinfo in a code block, so that when the devs get here they can see what features your graphics card supports.

Hi, no problem.
Thank you for your recommendations. You are right, i use cinnamon desktop. I'll try and change the desktop. The grahics card is old, fully agree. But i use the same configuration in my HTPC with win10 to use madVR and everything is working fine. So i think, is just a setting under linux.

You are right. I use Cinnamon and it looks like, that it is the issue for the white screen. Just bootted Linux Mint 21 with XFCE and used it with MC30. Everything plays well.
So i can only hope, that an update for cinnamon will be launched, which fixes my problem.
Awesome Donkey:
My personal experience with Cinnamon hasn't been that good either. It's based on an old fork of GNOME 3, and doesn't support newer things like Wayland which kinda is a dealbreaker for me these days. Have you tried KDE Plasma or GNOME (either with Ubuntu or Kubuntu)? If so, I'd be interested in knowing how well those work with MC30 and video.

Definitely a Mint 21.1 issue.
I upgraded to 21.1 when live viewing TV would eventually stop, become unresponsive (I only use Theater View, btw) and crash Cinnamon after about 30 minutes or so of viewing. I was hoping the upgrade would solve the issue.
Now I get the "white screen" when I launch Theater View. I can watch TV in the standard view when the renderer is set to JRVR, but changing it to Legacy OpenGL results in a white screen even in standard view. BTW, you have to close MC and restart it after switching for the changes to take effect (in case anyone else wants to experiment). I tried installing the XFCE environment but it was functionally unusable and apparently there's something about having to install XFCE first, then Cinnamon, but I'm not sure and really didn't want to pursue that route anyway.
Anyway, just wanted to throw in my experience. So, the net-net is TV works in standard view, white screen in theater view. I'll be more than happy to post stats/deets/logs if it will be helpful.
