EPG in theatre mode
« on: March 27, 2023, 04:41:30 pm »

Is there anyway of changing the EPG and recorded TV browser to allow more channels and programs to be seen on the screen? Ideally something like the attached.

You can change list style in Theater View.  Go to "Shows", for example, and choose More > Toggle List Style.  Keep pressing Enter/OK until you find the style you like or close to like.

EPG (Guide) in Theater View is shown in the attached image below.

That EPG is exactly what I want, but my fonts seem way too big, where can I shrink the fonts? Its a 4K TV.
Can I change the recordings list to be newest first?

You can adjust display size.  Tools > Options > Theater View > Appearance > Size

Perfect, from 200 to 100 gives exactly what I needed. Now to find an easy way to switch from series view to a date view of all recordings on the box from newest to oldest

"Recent" is right next to "Series"

It is, but that’s only seems to be when each series first aired. What I’m after is a list of recordings with the last thing the box recorded
First, then the 2nd to last thing, then the 3rd going backwards regardless of what they are called, or what series they are part of. Is that possible?
Trying to get the best WAF here :)

"Recent" sorts videos by Date Imported.  For me, and others who use JRiver MC to record, this is the same as Date Recorded.

Theater View is customizable.  Take a look at the settings for "Recent", for example, you can either change it to Sort by "Date Recorded", or create a new view with that setting.  I am not how it will work with shows recorded in WMC and imported into MC.  You might need to try "Date Created"

That explains the issue. With Windows Media Center all you had to do is tell it where the files were and it read the tags as it imported them. I guess I need to empty the library and then tell it what tags to read such as date recorded when it imports? As I’ve moved a few files to my NAS the file creation dates will be wrong, although the tags should be correct.
I’ll experiment as I need to scan them for ads again

You can use directory names to fill tags.  See the auto import settings.

Also, take a look at Carnac:  https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Carnac

MC does the same, but it's possible that importing WTV files doesn't.

Experimenting with this further it seems I can customise ‘recent’ in theatre view and I can get it in the order I want by selecting Date Recorder as the first field BUT I then lose the program title as it has a date and time instead. If I add ‘series’ as the first item I then get the program name but bad sorting.
Just spent half an hour on this - what am I missing here???
The recorded date and name fields are correct in library list view

You don't need to change anything for importing.  Go to Tools > Options > Theater View.

Click "Recent" under "Video\Shows".  Then click "Set rules for file display..." at the bottom-right of the window.  On the resulting window, you see under "Modify Results" there is one modifier:  Sort By Date Imported (z-a)

Remove "Date Imported (z-a)", and click Add..., choose "Descending (Z to A)" > "Date Recorded"

What you tried was to categorize the shows by date recorded.  That is why you get a date for each listed item, instead of a name.  You then have to select a date to get into it, then you will see all shows recorded on that particular date.

Perfect, after tidying up a few very old, unplayable files with corrupt dates that I didn’t know about it’s fixed the problem. Thanks very much!
All I need now is to be able to switch soundtracks and I think basic pvr functionality is sorted, and it’s on to Comskip

Happy to help you test Audio Track switching if it helps. We consistently have 2 of 3 audio channels with both AC3 and AAC-HE so I have plenty of source material to test with

Try these:
-with remote control or keyboard => during playback show the OSD by using up/down arrow until you see Language > right/left arrow to choose audio track
-with mouse => right click inside the video > Streams > choose your audio track

For WTV files the audio streams are not made available because it requires additional coding to achieve.  I will be looking into this.

There is no language option that I can find. Curiously enough also it doesn’t seem to be in recorded TS and native recordings. The ts file played AAC and the native one played AC3 which is my preferred option if it’s available

Is there a way of setting AC3 Audio as the default playback setting for all files? Occasionally but not often I need to switch, but usually AC3 is the best

There is no default way of preferring one audio type over the other.  The default way is to use the first available stream.  Each file will save its own preference if you make a selection during playback.  The selection is saved in the database and will be used the next time you play the video again.

However, there is a setting to choose a default audio language (English vs. Spanish for example).

That’s a pity, I have approx 1600 WTV files!!! Still if I can swap it once it starts playing it’s usable. Basically my preference is AC3 if available and regardless of soundtrack no modifications to it as the surround sound amp takes care of it when fed via SPDIF from the PC. Then of course there’s 44.1KHz streaming from Standare Audio files instead of the default 48KHz sample rate from TV audio. I’m guessing this already works unlike with Windows Media Center which required a manual change
