Author Topic: Mac mini M2 Pro chip / MC30 / Scarlett 2i2 - Popping on Play and stop  (Read 889 times)

I have just installed a new Mac mini with the M2 pro chip and a Scarlett 2i2 interface.
MC30 works great except for a loud popping when I stop or start a track.
It only pops upon starting or stopping, it moves from track to track just fine.
MC30 w/ 2i2 automatically adjusts the sample rate without issue.
I've played with DSP Studio (Output format only) and Playback and the Focusrite Control app, but have not been able to find the right combination of settings.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is your macOS' system default audio output set to a different sample rate, like 48 kHz? If that's the case and you go try to playback 44.1 kHz in MC that means at the beginning of playback the DAC switches sample rates to 44.1 kHz and on stop it switches back to the system's default sample rate, e.g. 48 kHz. You may be able to change this in the Audio MIDI Setup app, to at least match what most of your content you're playing back is, e.g. 44.1 kHz. Some DACs are known to pop on sample rate changes, and it happening on start and stop kinda makes me think the system default is set to a different sample rate.

Thanks for your suggestions.
It is definitely due to the 2i2 changing sample rates.
Unfortunately, the Focusrite Control app only allows for an Internal clock source.
Even if you change the sample rate before playback to match the source, it pops when you adjust the rate and then upon stopping playback.
My old MBox must have automatically muted itself when rates were changed.
Time to try a different interface!
