Fresh Windows 10 install, what to backup?
« on: April 18, 2023, 03:28:05 am »

Hi
Windows 10 has start to take very long time to boot up and after several attempts to fix that I might need to make a fresh Windows 10 installation. So I wonder what to back up in JRiver other than the Library (the actual music flac files) that is already on another hard drive?

Thanks,
Captor

Just back up, choosing to save your settings.

But take a look at Windows Task Manager to see what's running.

Antivirus software can do unfortunate things as well.

Are all settings I need for setup a new MC in the same old state as before the reinstall of Windows 10 in the Library Backups?

FYI - Terminology.  MC uses the word Library to mean the MC specific files which includes things like your settings and metadata for the actual flac files. The flac files are separate and not included in the Library. So, when you do a library backup, it includes all those settings and metadate but not the actual flac files themselves. You need to backup those separately. So, if you do a clean re-install make sure you have both the MC backup file and the flac files stored on a separate disk.
