Snap to Currently Playing Track?
« on: May 11, 2023, 01:36:50 pm »

So stupid question that I can't seem to find.

Let's say I am playing track 723 in a 10000 track playlist.
I scroll down, down, up a little, down, up a little, down to track 4567.

Now that I looking at track 4567 I don't remember what track number was playing (because I am old)... is there a way to snap the list to the currently playing track instead, without having to scroll up/down to find the location?

I thought this was possible in older versions and thought I had done it via Home or similar key, but that doesn't seem to be it.

It's not something I need often, but would not be a terrible thing to have the ability.

I think you are looking for "Show Playing Now", which zooms you to the currently playing track, in Playing Now.

Player > Playing Now > Show Playing Now.

The keyboard shortcut is Alt-2 .

I KNEW I hadn't just imagined it working before.

Thanks blgentry!

There is small pix of the album to the right of the status info near the top of the screen... click it... that does what you want too.

I too love the ability to jump to what is currently playing using either of the methods indicated here. The problem is, I always have my playing now tab locked.  I do this because I never want my playing now tab replaced when I click on something else in the tree, either intentionally or accidentally.  It works perfectly as it creates a new tab instead of overwriting my playing now tab.

But… When I use either of the methods discussed here to jump to the currently playing track, that also causes a new tab to be created. Since I obviously do not need 2 playing now tabs, I close the unlocked tab (which updated to the currently playing selection). Unfortunately, the locked playing now tab remains at the non-current track position, so it is somewhat of a Catch-22.

In the hopes that Matt is reading this thread... Is it possible to update the behavior such that jumping to the currently playing track does not automatically create a new tab if the playing now tab is locked?

I'll try to handle this next build.  Thanks for the prod.

Jumping to an existing Playing Now tab (PNT) makes sense, but Note ...

For me, the creation of a new PNT, by either of the methods above, currently happens independently of whether an existing PNT is locked or unlocked:
  • If I start from any locked tab then a new PNT is always created.
  • If I start from any unlocked tab, then that tab changes to a PNT.

Great elaboration & catch Mark.

Thank you Matt! Hopefully the additional wrinkle noted by Mark won't cause you any extra heartburn.

For the record, the "snap" action (jump to PNT, the "Player" tab) has been significantly improved in Beta 31.0.13.   For details, see the change log in a future release.
