I get this quite often.  In my case it is because my computer is connected to my receiver which is connected to my Sony TV. For some reason my Computer sees both my Sony TV via the pass through and my Receiver as "Sony TV" and "Sony TV".  Not sure why.  With my Onkyo Receiver it showed up as the TV and The Onkyo receiver.

So basically what happens is that sometimes during an input change the computer switches the Audio Card to the Actual TV instead of the Receiver.  The TV of course can't process much of the audio that the receiver can.

My point in the end is that maybe JRiver is picking up a different audio device in your chain and trying to play audio formats / Resolutions that it is not capable of?

Check both in Windows sound devices and also in JRiver.

I have tried renaming the 2 devices and it sometimes works for awhile but eventually they revert back for some reason.

Hope this helps.

Carl.

jctcom,
If you're using HDMI, do a Google search on EDID problems.

Yeah.  Hard to find anything specific to this receiver / TV combo.

Pretty sure the issue is with the receiver since my previous Onkyo did not have this problem.

Was playing around with the receiver settings and finally got it to be detected properly....  For about an hour or so.
Then something changed and it reverted back to two TV's being detected lol.

I have posted on the AVS Forum to see if anyone has any ideas.

Carl.
