MC TV Sound Problems (DocLotus and Kurt Young)
« on: February 20, 2003, 09:24:51 am »

Please try MC build 117 and see if the sound problems you reported have been fixed.

Take a look at TV configuration dialog, the Audio page, and pay attention to the lower portion. With "Enable Audio Mode Selection" unchecked, you should not have the sound problems - I'd go mad if you do  ;)

Please also try checking that checkbox, and selecting Stereo. If that also work, then I think your problems are solved.

The audio mode selection is very driver-dependent. Different drivers may have different behavior. If you can not make it work, you may have to disable it. With my ATI AIW, I can bring out SAP if a station broadcasts it. With my Hauppauge card, either using Hauppauge driver or Universal Conexant's driver, I can not bring out the SAP - but selecting "Stereo" works.

Yaobing, sir,

I have been a bit out of commission at home.  I just now downloaded .119 and installed it.  My TV-audio problems are gone... All I have to do now is launch MC, input a channel number, and I have video and sound both.

Thanks!!

Thank you Doc and Kurt for reporting back on this. I am glad it works for you now.

Have either of you tried the "Audio Mode Selection" options? It was what caused the problem. If someone needs to use that option (probably not many), I would like to know that it works now as it is intended.

Hi Yaobing;

I just tried the Audio Mode Selection.  Looks like we have a new problem.

I tried checking the Mono button.  Afterwords I could not re-select the Stereo button.  I tried unchecking the Enable Audio Mode Selection box, then re-checking it but still could not select the Stereo button.  Also tried first selecting Language A but could not select the Stereo button... it is greyed out.  Also tried closing & re-opening MC but same problem was still there.

Funny thing... even though the Mono button is checked I am still getting rear channel sound.  Did not think that should happen with mono sound.

The sound seems to be in stereo even the Mono button is checked.

Just discovered another problem... as soon as I closed the TV Options box the sound went to mono & no rear channels as before all this happened.

Seems like we are right back where we started...
* If I select Advanced Options then double click on TV Tuner the sound turns to Stereo with rear channels.
* As soon as I close then re-open MC the rear channels are gone along with the stareo. :'(

One more thing I just discovered... If I un-check the Enable Audio Mode Selection box, stereo sound along with the rear channels are retained even after an MC reboot.

Seems that the Audio Mode Selection itself is the culpret here.
