I have been trying for what seems to be years now to make my MC run smooth. Over time it gets slower and slower until I have to restart MC and then it is ok.
Not slower playing media, once media is running it is ok as we are not touching it, but in Theater view menus, the slowdown gets worse and worse, icons slowly moving and such. Sometimes keypresses take 5 or more seconds to react. CPU usage slowly rises from 4% to 12% being used by MC. Restart and all is ok, for a hour or two.

I have asked for help here, and gotten some advice, but I still can't fix it.
I am looking at two different ideas, and would love some help on the first.
The log. I clear the log and start MC. How many lines of stuff happens for a average start?
I get over 10,000 entries just starting MC. Is that normal?
Most of the lines look like this.... what is it doing? And why so many things to do?

Any ideas what is going on?

Also there are refences to IPs i don't recognize, like this line

Who is MC notifying, and why?

Hundreds of thousands of music tv and movies on a real server (Supermicro) feeding a more than adequate PC is the setup.

I don't know how many lines you'd see in a normal startup, but 10,000 wouldn't be surprising.

The Notify command is probably just a broadcast.  The port is 1900, which is SSDP.  It's looking for devices on your network.

In the old thread, user comox suggested a video driver issue.  The latest video driver isn't always the best.

Antivirus could be a factor.  Make sure you have Windows Defender configured and don't use anything else.

What else is going on if you look at Task Manager?

It isn't the video driver. Not only have I tried different drivers, but also a different video cards, then I rebuilt the machine, and then lastly a whole brand new machine. All do it just the same. So you see I think it is a MC issue. But, not really. If it were really an MC issue, more would step up and say "Me too". I see lots of folks have a long shutdown, I do too, about 30-40 seconds. A friends music only box shuts down in an instant. But none seem to say "theater mode slows down".
My previous life I was head of a tech support unit for HP. I think I am pretty good narrowing down the issue until the problem is obvious. Divide and Conquer, if you can. But I replaced the whole PC and it still does it. 1. New PC, 2. New win (11), 3. new install....and then the area that is starting to look like a suspect, 4. I restored my library....
I have so many years of configuring. The view in Theater Mode is so complex, it took years to fine tune, but I can't back up just that view (or can I?), I have to restore the whole library to save all my work. Other than that I would have to configure it from scratch to shake everything I did in the past.
The one thing you all can't know about, and worries me that it is the problem, is my programming of fields and such. I can be inventive, and have stolen ideas from here and the wiki and made some interesting fields. I worry I could have created some set that "clash". Like a field referencing data that relies on the result of a field that relies on data from the the other field.. I know I can "revert all fields back to stock" (thanks for that button BTW), but of course that will make all the rest of my views fail.

In coming here I was hoping for any fresh ideas on the slowdown, but I think a fresh install and fresh library is next... I sure wish there was some way to save my views in theater mode.

Calculated fields can be slow.

You could back up your library and try some things, then restore it if needed.

Divide and Conquer, indeed.

You could send a backup of your library to matt at jriver and he could take a look.  Include a link to this thread.

I am glad you said "You Could" ...No one should have to look at the stuff I cobbled together.
I will take this opportunity to kill all custom fields and remake them. I have learned a lot along the way. It will be cleaner, tighter.

Here's an example of my work. This is for Now Playing, for music. Shows DTS in green and videos in blue, collapses the artist and name fields to save space...and more...

I see I can revert stock fields back, I did not modify any stock Library field... I just created a bunch.
I will make a copy of the code and delete them....
