Checking for bugfix on video player
« on: June 30, 2023, 07:02:48 pm »

HI, I purchased the triple license for MC29 and have an issue with the interface getting stuck on a white screen any time the fullscreen video player is exited.

System details: M2 Mac mini, Ventura 13.4.1, Media Center version 29.0.91

I suspect this was fixed at 30.0.29 if I'm reading the changelogs correctly, but I'm unsure. I tried to install MC31 from the regular download page and it immediately reports the trial period has expired. I'm not exactly in the situation to spend $30 to find out if this issue is solved. Is there a solution for this issue that I haven't found in my current version? Is there any intention to backport a fix for this basic functionality to MC29? Is there a way for me to get a trial of MC31 long enough to test that the issue is resolved before I purchase?

Your report is not something I've ever heard before.  I've been using Video on MC for Mac since it came out in version 21 or so.  I don't recall having a white screen instead of video.  For certain, 29, 30, and 31 have played video without any trouble on the 3 Macs I've had with those 3 versions of MC.

It sounds like somehow the trial expired on 31 too quickly.  It might be worth trying version 30 instead, just to see if it plays video for you.  You can not buy MC30 any more, but this might give you some good data anyway.  Here's a link where you can download older versions:

Hopefully MC30 and MC31 will work properly for you.

Best of luck,
Brian.

Thanks, the trial for MC30 did work for me, which gives me a good sense that I can expect MC31 to likely work if I roll out the update. I suspect my problem was linked to changes in MacOS' handling of fullscreen as referenced in the changelog for 30.0.29

Don't forget to grant the permissions Media Center also needs on macOS. Bob explains the how and what each permission is needed for here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,134228.0.html
