Id fsck failure boots into maintenance shell

I have an (old) JRiver Id that appears to have a disk error.

I connected the HDMI output to a monitor, and see the following message:

    /dev/sda3: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
              (i.e. without -a or -p options)

Take a look inside to make sure everything is seated.

You can't, there is no root password.

You could however boot a live linux distribution from a USB stick and clean it from the root shell that way.
As root run fsck -y /dev/sdx3 (where x is what the internal drive appears as on your live boot shell).

I disconnected all the connectors, including the disk, and reassembled everything. Had the same error with /dev/sda3.

As I was writing this, I see the previous post suggested what I did. I inserted a Fedora 38 Live USB, and was able to run fsck:

 $ su
 # fsck /dev/sda3

This appears to have fixed the problem.

New question - can install this drive in a newer/faster NUC and have it work?

It depends on how old the image is.
What version of MC is it running?

I don't think that one will go past a NUC6.
You could ask
deanna (at) jriver (dot) com
to quote you on an update to the drive for a newer NUC. Our latest build will run on a NUC12 and even on the NUC you have it will get your version of MC up to 31.

An interesting thread. I have the NUC6ACYH running Id:24.0.17 MC:26.0.107-5 Engen:1.0.69 and has been a fantastic player for a number of years and the only recent issue is the loss of access with Cloudplay functionality. Is it an option to purchase a new drive with MC31 or is it a whole new NUC?

You should be able to send the drive back for an update. Send an email to Deanna to ask about pricing.
Are you storing media files on it?

!20GBSSD and media is held on a NAS. I will email Deanna for a quote and look of available options as I am in the UK.
