Volume on my iPod
« on: February 19, 2003, 07:00:06 am »

Hi,

After copying the files to my iPod, I would like to increase the volume of all the files on my iPod. I need a bit more output level to feed a line input.

Is this possible?

Cheers

nitram,

It is not possible on the iPod but you could try reencoding the files in MC or during the upload with the normalization setting increased to get boosted volume.

Steve,

The normalisation setting is already set 100%. A higher value is not supported. So far i remember, the volume setting is stored in the id tag. It might be easy to implement a higher volume level in future versions of mc.

It was easy to do this with xplay >:(

In meantime i will search for an additional tool.

nitram,

The problem is that the normalization feature is not working when you convert the files on the fly to iPod. I will fix this. If you convert the files in MC to 100%, that should produce a file that is at it's maximum volume without distorting which can then be transferred to iPod.

If your files are mp3s, you can use MP3gain to non-destructively increase the volume level.  In fact, you could just point MP3Gain right at the ipod's explorer drive letter to work, and you wouldn't have to move the files onto your computer to do it.

Steve, Sean

Thanks for your help.

The tool does exactly the right thing. I will use it, until the function is implemented in mc

nitram,

The normalization should be fixed in the next build of MC.
