MBOP MC31 crash when playing via JRemote
« on: August 22, 2023, 03:33:39 pm »

My MBP is connected to my Marantz SR7007 via HDMI. When I use JRemote to play MC crashes.
Log and MacOS crash report are attached.
Many thanks for any insights!

Does it happen if MC is connected to the player zone instead? (HDMI on MBP)?

Is that the first thing you do after starting MC?

It does seem to be trying to download a cover art image when it crashes.

Thanks Bob,
I have MC running in the background on the MBP all the time. When I start MC on JRemote it allows me to select tracks but when I start playing it crashes. It has something to do with the HDMI connection as it doesn't happen if I just play on the MBP speakers. Also, I removed and replugged the HDMI cable and then I can play on the AVR again without issue. It''s very strange. I am sure it is mainly an Apple issue. I am just trying to find a workflow that allows me to play on the MBP without crash. Maybe I should restart the MBP more often.

What is the AVR?  Make and model.

MC can play leading silence.  There's a setting in the Audio section.

You could also try using DSP Studio > Output Settings to force everything to 16/44.1, just to see what happens.

Do you create a zone for that with the device in MC's Audio settings or just use core audio default and change it with the Mac audio device selection?
Did the computer or AV box sleep or power cycle?

There's some possibility this is yet another case of HDMI device disappearing when it is turned off.  The AVR is probably turned off and on frequently while the Mac stays up.

The "fix" is of course to use an EDID device in the middle that makes the Mac think that the AVR is on all the time.  I have never used one so I don't have a good one to recommend.  Amazon has a LOT of them.

Best of luck.

Brian.

It's a Marantz SR7007.
I'll try the leading silence and the output setting.
Thank you for these suggestions.

I dod not create a zone. It's playing on HDMI Core audio.
No, the computer didn't sleep and the AV box was fully powered.
I'll look into creating a zone for the AVR, I just need to learn how to do that.
Thank you for your help, Bob!
