MC 31.0.40 'loses' licence details and requires fresh restore after a few days
Jodel:
I'm running Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon on all my computers
Recently upgraded to MC 31 and restored my licence to a desktop computer and three laptops.
My desktop computer has retained the licence details, but I have had to restore the licence for my laptops twice. Aside from the minor annoyance of reinstating my licence, I'm using up my annual quota of restores rather quickly.
I have not had this problem previously and have used MC since version 24.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?
Awesome Donkey:
Random MAC address randomization feature enabled? If so, that can cause registration to be lost. Also incorrectly set system clock can too.
Jodel:
Thanks for getting back to me.
I didn't know there was such a thing as MAC address randomisation and as far as I know it is not enabled. The system clocks on all the PCs are at the correct time.
The only thing that has changed is the upgrade to MC31. Previous installed versions (MC24 and MC30) are still working and retain their licence codes.
A bit of a puzzle!

So if you're using network manager as your network interface (which I think is default on cinnamon), then MAC address randomization is usually enabled by default for wifi connections (but not for ethernet connections), so that would neatly explain why the desktop hasn't experienced the issue, but the laptops have. Older versions of network manager did not have this default behavior.
This article explains how to configure and/or disable it in network manager: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NetworkManager#Configuring_MAC_address_randomization. Worth a try to narrow down the issues.
Jodel:
Excellent - thanks for pointing this out. I'll read up a bit and modify my configuration appropriately.
