Picture has brown low contrast tinge
« on: November 07, 2023, 06:54:30 pm »

I have a problem I have never had before with JRiver.
For some reason when I try to play a 4k movie on my 4k monitor it has a brown low contrast look to it.
Even when I shut JRiver Down the screen is all screwed until I left click on the mouse and the colors come back.

It does not do this with 1080p movies and some of the 4k movies I played in JRiver 30 that played fine are now doing this in 31.

These are files I ripped off Blu-Rays and like I said, these movies played fine in 30 but they simply look brown and muddie in 31.

Any help would be appreciated.

To save some time I am using a RTX-3080ti and the Drivers are up to date.
I even tried installing an older Driver but the results are the same.

Like I said, these are the same files that played fine in 30.

I went through all the video settings and nothing helps.

Thanks.

Went back to JRiver 30 and it fixed the problem.

Just guessing by the symptoms, it may have something to do with windows desktop HDR settings and the (newer) JRVR HDR/SDR/tonemapping features.
Are these 4k bluray rips HDR/DV?
Is your monitor HDR?
Do you have windows desktop HDR turned on?
In JRiver are you using JRVR or Madvr or ROS?

If you're using MadVR and seeing this, it may be related to an issue with MadVR. Essentially, one HDR file works, you try to play an SDR file with MadVR, it works, you try and play ANOTHER HDR file with MadVR, and guess what? You get the washed out image. Reboot fixes it reliably.
