I am planning to use a HTPC (Windows) for the first time and would like some advice on the best ways to mirror the HTPC wirelessly to an iPad or laptop, so that I do not have to have the large screen on while listening to music.

Internally, I mostly use RealVNC for this 'control a desktop' stuff. The server / host side is cross platform and they have clients for iOS, android, etc.
VNC is dated but for this sort of thing it's fine.

For listening Music on the HTPC the TV screen must not been on. Yo have to enable MC + Server as start option and CTRL the HTPC through JRemote.
