Best practice when converting hi-res lossless to lossy formats
« on: November 16, 2023, 04:16:47 pm »

Lately, I have been purchasing some hi-res music files. Now I am looking for the best way to convert them to lossy files. I usually use MP3, Musepack and Ogg Vorbis.

Is there anything I should consider, that is not an issue when converting standard CD audio to lossy? Dithering when changing bit depth is a subject that comes to mind from reading stuff here and there over the years, but I am no expert on hi-res specific issues. I did not find anything about this in the Wiki.
