Multi-Zone Playback Instructions
« on: February 06, 2003, 06:32:18 am »

You can ask Media Center to play different music in different zones if your PC supports this.

Here are some links:

Command line examples:
mjextman.exe /Command SetZone 0
mjextman.exe /Command SetZone 1
mjextman.exe /Command SetZone 2
etc...

You can quickly switch between zones using CTRL+~

It is impossible with an AZERTY keyboard  :'(

It is also a way to manage several playlists during a party (rock, slow, samba,...) even if your PC have only one sound card.

Indeed, there is not other way right now to switch playlists keeping the current position for each them.

It is only missing a way to "pause" automatically the current zone and to "play" automatically the new one after a switch...

Is it possible to let us choose which key combination to use for switching ?

It does not work for AZERTY keyboards and I'm not willing to change to QWERTY.

Since MC9 build 106 came with a reliable way to change zones in a multi-zone system I have made a control system that works perfecly, let's you select playlists from any zone that you've got an IR remote in, as long as you've got numbered playlists. Or you can run it with NetRemote. In the file I have attached to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=223505 you'll find a Girder GML file, a CCF file for NetRemote and a readme. Please do that (read it). Hope this comes in handy for somebody, I'm using it to the full extent, and I'd say that I do not miss a high end multi-zone system anymore (something I have dreamt about in more than ten years)!

If you find any errors or anything else that can be of interest, please tell me here or in one of the other two boards I frequent (the AVS Forum HTPC board or the Girder board). Have a nice time automating your audio playback!

Finally I found a way to switch between several playlists (slow, rock, samba,...) during a party, without to loss the current position in each playlist, using only one sound card:

I have one .cmd file per zone, each one this way:

mjextman.exe /Command Pause
mjextman.exe /Command SetZone zone#
mjextman.exe /Command Pause

I put shortcuts of these .cmd files on the desktop and voila !

PS. This way I don't need anymore a shortcut for AZERTY keyboard.

My webpage is upgraded with a step by step, picture by picture, description of how to create new zones and how to use my Girder GML file. Have a look if you're interested!  8)
