Bose NC 700 bluetooth headphones

Hi,

Any advice for fixing an echo with Bose NC 700 headphones on Media Center 31.0.84?

Media Center 31.0.84 on Windows 10 with Bose NC 700 headphones - problem exists
Media Center 31.0.84 on Windows 11 22_H2 with Bose NC 700 headphones - problem exists

Media Center 31.0.84 on Windows 11 22_H2 with inbuilt laptop speakers - problem does not exist
Media Center 31.0.84 on Windows 11 22_H2 with Airpod Pro - problem does not exist
VLC on Windows 11 22_H2 with Bose NC 700 headphones - problem does not exist
WIN11 Media Player on Windows 11 22_H2 with Bose NC 700 headphones - problem does not exist

Troubleshooting so far includes;
deleting then repairing headphones
Media Center > Player > DSP Studio; uncheck everything

Any advice?

Hi,

Following on from my 1st post, I have taken a few more troubleshooting steps:
- Updated device Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) driver from 22.150.0.2 to 22.250.0.2 - no effect
- Tried a pair of Bose QuietComfort 15 wired headphones - the audio is perfect with no echo.
while I was doing this I recorded the output for these and the troublesome bluetooth headphones, (hopefully attached to this message) approx 5 seconds long. The wired headphones is approx 5 seconds long, as expected. The bluetooth headphones recording is about 16 seconds long, even though the progress time counter in Media Center title bar only advanced by 5 seconds, eg Media Center is playing slow, roughly 1/3 speed, but only when Bose NC 700 headphones are used, other bluetooth or wired headphones are ok.

Any ideas about what might cause Media Center to selectively play slow based on the audio output device used?

Hi,

More info on my problem;
Media Center > Tools > Options > Default Audio Device [Direct Sound]
I change it to Default Audio Device [WASAPI] and the Bose NC 700 bluetooth headphones now sound good! Success!!! Or so I thought till I turn off or swap headphones (bluetooth or wired) which caused Media Center to crash;

Event ID 1002 Application Hang
HangType Cross-thread
AppVersion 31.0.87.0

And I think WASAPI is causing intermittent pops in the playback, only on some files. Might be mp3's with VBR encoding where as CBR files are ok, but need to do more digging to confirm this. Its been one of those 2 steps forward 1 back kinda days...

Any advice on the crashing issue, WASAPI popping, or other thoughts on fixing the original problem?

In Audio settings, you should find a Bluetooth device you can choose.

Wondering if its worth upgrading to the latest version from 31.0.87?
JimH advised that the way to fix the echo problem was to fiddle around with the audio device settings, no joy so far.

So your problem is only when you use Bluetooth?

What did Bose suggest?

A crash is often a driver problem.

Try only playing one file type. 

Try using MC's DSP Studio to convert everything to 48 kHZ.

You could install MC32 and try it.
