Is it Possible to specify custom gamut XY values in JRVR?
« on: January 11, 2024, 01:18:59 pm »

Title says it all.  I can do this in MadVR, does an equivalent function exist in JRVR / libplacebo?

I believe not, it would be a nice enhancement though

For your display? Use a ICC profile, or a 3DLUT.
Having that sort of input is frankly too niche to support directly.

I've attempted using a 3DLUT with less than ideal results.

It seems to me that it's not too niche for MadVR where it works perfectly for me, eliminating the need to have to back off on the saturation and contrast to avoid clipping saturated colors, since my JVC can't reach full P3 or BT.2020 targets.

Others have requested this as well, so it can't be that niche.

Without this, JRVR / libplacebo is a no-go for me.

Specifying your display's capability is what an ICC profile is for.  JRVR/libplacebo will read it and get the display's gamut properties, then transform the content accordingly.

If this is a mandatory transformation for you, then you could create a customized ICC profile with this information. Could even limit it to only this information if you don't want any other adjustments made.

I think it's just easier to enter a few values read from some calibration tool than it is to create an ICC profile

btw my recollection is that you can't use both ICC and a 3dlut and that a 3dlut can't specify a custom gamut hence custom gamut, if it's possible to apply via an ICC, is still not supported for someone using a 3dlut. I haven't looked into ICC support in libplacebo much so not sure if that is that correct?
