Installing JRiver Media Center 32 on MacOS
« on: January 19, 2024, 10:35:47 am »

Download and Install
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of Xcode changes, MC32 REQUIRES at least MacOS 10.13. It will NOT run on any older version of MacOS.

Please download the version that matches your license.  MC32 is on the Download Page.  Older versions are in the Old Versions topic on our wiki.

Double click on the .dmg file to unpack the disk image and show the install window.

Drag Media Center 32 to the Applications shortcut shown in the install window (see the enclosed image).

Close the installer window and eject the Media Center 32 installer disk image (control-click or right click on the installer image and do eject).

Run Media Center 32 from the Applications folder (from the finder menu, Go->Applications and double click on Media Center 32).

If you are asked for accessibility permissions you must accept that (it's how MC deals with retina displays).
If you are asked for screen recording permissions, you need to accept that for MC's user interface to operate properly, MC uses that permission to copy from part of it's window to another part of it's window. It's not used for anything else.
If you are asked for permission for input monitoring (capturing keys) you must accept that if you want the media keys on your keyboard to work in MC, it's not used for anything else.
When the system asks for permissions for MC to do disk access (Music, Pictures, Movies, Removable drives, etc) you must accept those to be able to access your media or CD/DVD drives or mounted NAS filesystems, or external drives)

Once MC is running you can control-click or right click on the Media Center 32 icon on the Dock, choose "Options" and select "Keep in Dock".

Converting Data from a previous version
A new feature of Media Center 32 is that the most recent library from a previous major version will automatically be loaded and restored into Media Center 32 the first time it is run. This includes any user installed Skins and Trackinfos.

Apple Support for Installing Applications

If you're upgrading, you can leave your older version installed until you're happy with the new one, and then uninstall the old version.

Licensing
The easiest way to enter your license without removing old versions of MC is to copy and paste it from your registration email into MC either at the startup splash screen if asked for it there or via Help->Registration Info when in the program. Using the .mjr with an old version installed may try to run the registration from the old version which is why we recommend the copy and paste method here.

Hallo from Germany,
I failed to grant above mentioned permission during MacOS install, sorry... ::)
Is there a way to fix this or is it easier to re-install?
Is this maybe the reason why I have no visualizations... ?
Thank you and best regards

Visualizations aren't implemented on Mac yet.

You can add permissions in
System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy
There are several permissions in there and the way they are presented depends on the version of MacOS you are running however the list in the post above describes which ones you need.

New message for screen recording in Mac OS 15. Hope you could change this in MC33, to up the security. As of now, I can't use your software at my work computer, as there is no way to confirm your software only use it for the interface.

MC likely can't function correctly without that permission unfortunately.

I understand that MC32 have this problem, but I also believe that it is possible to rewrite the affected code to follow Apple's guidelines. I have other software that have had the same issue, and is now working with new user rights.  :) It might also be some changes in the following betas of Mac OS that affects this, but as you now develop MC33 it might be something to look into?

MC uses that permission to read certain parts of it's own window when modifying those parts. It's not used a lot. You can run without it though you may occasionally get odd screen behavior.
Unfortunately MacOS doesn't give fine enough control over that permission to restrict it to the app itself.
