Parameters for Audio Catalyist...
« on: January 07, 2003, 01:18:22 pm »

I bought audio catalyist which contains the Xing MP3 encoder. How do I configure MJ 8 to use it? (i.e. parameters, etc.)

You can start by downloading the external encoder plug-in from this page.

I don't think MJ will be able to make AudioCatalyst work. AC is not just a command line encoder.  It is a full ripping program with the Xing encoder built into it.  The Xing encoder cannot be extracted and used separately.

I think your best bet for using an external encoder would be to get LAME.EXE and use that with MJ.

You can get LAME.EXE here:

I'm pretty sure that Xing used to have a separate encoder program that could be called from MJ.  I've forgotten the details.

JimH, if you do remember the details, please don't share them.  It is generally accepted that Xing gives the worst results of any mp3 encoder available.  I also have read that Xing was bought out by Real Audio and there has been NO support for AudioCatalyst since.

LAME is probably the best mp3 encoder, and it is FREE.
