Import doesn't import
« on: February 19, 2024, 08:20:30 pm »

MC31 on Windows 10, DVD ripped to NAS using a Fabulous tool that has been consistently functional.
DVD is ripped, copied to NAS per usual.

MC does not import automatically - why not?

Go to MC21 menu, import and select the new movie folder on same NAS (and parent folder) as hundreds of other movies and TV shows that do appear in MC and run the import process.
MC reports zero files added.

Check auto import settings and edit to change file types.  The wiki explains import.

NAS drives don't always notify the OS, so import runs on a time.

If they don't show up, they may already be imported, but be filed as a different media type.  Search.

I've only been working with computers for about 40 years, so take the following with a grain of salt.  Or not at all - I don't care.

  • Split this thing into separate applications for Audio and Video.  This would allow for...
  • Testing.  This is how real developers put out software that, you know, works.

BTW: Installed 32.0.0.0.0.20 and it promptly decided my registration was no longer valid.  Not important as I have 30 days to replace this with something that can handle advanced functionality like ... importing video files in a folder it's been pointed to.  Stuff like that.

Wow.

I built a computer before IBM introduced the PC.

I've used JRiver Media Center every single day since 2003.

I've tried most competitive products. There is nothing better for managing audio, video, images, and documents.

Auto import works very well.  Just read up on it and keep trying.  You should eventually get it ... especially with 40 years of "computer" experience.

It acts like it's working but doesn't read the folder it's displaying as the source.

I'm retired now, but in a past life I designed and programmed control systems for manufacturing operations.

Yes, I did read the manual for MC.

Operations such as this shouldn't require much, if any, manual reading.

If import fails, either your auto import settings need to be corrected, or the files were imported, but aren't where you think they should be.  Try a search.

Certain file types are just containers, so they can be in audio or video.

Upgrading to MC32 fixed Importing.
I entered the same NAS locations as before and changed no other settings.
Very strange, but it's working now.
Thank you for the follow-up.
