Set a directory to a specific user with MC
« on: February 23, 2024, 06:47:38 am »

For my partner and me I made two directories on a harddisk where all the media is placed. One for her and one for me.
Is it possible to set (filter) the directory of my partner to my partner (user) so that only that media is available for her.

Thanks in advance,

Ramnol.

If you have two separate Windows user accounts, you can set the library folder in Media Center for your account to be your preferred location and the library folder in Media Center for her account to be her preferred location. Since you could both be logged in at the same time, you should set Media Center to allow multiple instances to be run under Tools-Options-General-Advanced for each of your user accounts.

Note that if her user account can access both her and your files on the disk through File Explorer, she could double click on any of the media files to play them even if they don't show in her instance Media Center.

If you just want to have two views/playlists on MC each with the corresponding set of files, you can simply set the View filter or the Smartlist expression to display only files coming from a specific folder.
If you want to completely hide the files from each other... then there may be other issues, but Craig's is one way to go.

Thanks for your answers!
Is it possible to use a command within "Files to Show" under edit User?
If so, what expression can I use?

Yes, you can enter something like:
[filename]="c:\media\wife"

Then only files starting with that path will show up.
