MC31 Windows losing license
« on: February 24, 2024, 03:43:01 pm »

I have used MC since v24 and never had any issues.
I just built a new Windows 10 PC for exclusive MC use.
In the past 30 days (give or take) I have had to reinstall the license 3 times.
This new dedicated machine does nothing other than run MC.
I do not know exactly when it loses the license (or under what circumstances).
It does not have any registry cleaner.  There are no automated maintenance apps running.
The PC is powered on at all times (except for power outages and planned maintenance such as rerouting cables and the like).
One thing perhaps of value is that I have been intermittently closing MC in between listening sessions.

Any clues as to what I might look into?

Is the machine name changing?  Any special software?

Closing MC wouldn't cause that.

Antivirus?

Is your system's clock set correctly? Incorrectly set time (both system time and time in the Windows OS) could cause this to happen. Having a feature like MAC address randomization enabled in Windows' Wi-Fi/ethernet settings can also potentially cause it to happen.

Thank both, Awesome Donkey and JimH...

Machine name not changing.  No special software... out of the box Windows 10... again, dedicated to exclusive MC use.  Not even A/V.
My clock was set to the wrong time zone.  I have corrected that and will monitor.

With Windows 10, you're running Windows Defender.  It should be configured.  See the thread on this board.

Probably not a time zone problem.

IP address changing?

I opted to disable Windows Defender (via group policy) at system build.
As to IP address... it is DHCP served by a standalone DHCP server (someplace on my network).
If MC loses license again I will check on the lease duration... maybe assign static IP.

Thank you Jim.
