Hardware remotes

What all are people using for hardware remotes similar to the Harmony devices (which Harmony has abandoned).

Looking for a new hardware based remote that can control multiple devices, has macro/automation support, and is programmable to control Media Center.  Ideally not something tied to an online database (i.e. Harmony)...

Ideally supports IR and Bluetooth

Hmm...  Are we the only two people that prefer physical/dedicated remotes?

I'm suffering through using an old Windows Media Center (sigh - those were the days) remote, but the mapping is different and I'm clueless if/how it can be made to work with MC.

Anyone?

The Media Center Remote that worked with Windows MC  also works with JRiver.  Please see the wiki.

The Jelly Star phone has an IR blaster on it, could make for an interesting remote with the right apps.

Looking for Video Advice

I have used MC for years, but only for music management.

Now I am considering implementing on a NUC connected to my TV and accessing a large library of films to make a home media player (but just video).

I am looking for advice on an good remote control that is family friendly when using MC.

Probably easier to have a separate remote dedicated to MC to avoid frustration!

Any recomendations for am MC remote system available on Amazon in Europe that does not depend on mains power - USB is enough.

A few suggestions:
-Old school MCE RC6 remote with usb IR receiver, but you can really only get them on eBay (mostly from China). If you don't like the looks of the actual remote, you could always get any remote that can "learn" IR commands from the original.
or
-FLIRC https://flirc.tv/ and "use any remote". Note: I tried just the FLIRC usb dongle and failed, but others have had success. I see they now also have a remote to go with their dongle.

I have ordered the Flirc and USB and the deliver to Switzerland.
I will give MC a solid try as a video replacement for VLC run directly from the file system and report back on Flirc.
Maybe dreams come true....

I use tablets for media navigation / selection, and a repurposed IR remote (quite heavy, solid aluminum) for simple sh*t. The IR remote is received by a small embedded system, which talks to my internal control API, and the commands are sent to the relevant JRiver instance via MCWS. This lets me handle routing to the correct software or hardware (for example, if I'm listening to music, JRiver isn't involved) contextually.
