DSD Playback noise
« on: August 11, 2024, 12:34:10 am »

I've tried all settings possible. If I enable DSD bitstream in DoP I get no output.

Unchecked plays with static noise on all DSD. this is with Bitstreaming DSD set to YES

Works in another player, will use that for now.

Make sure volume is set to max. It makes a difference on some setups.

What does Audio Path say?

What does the screen on the device report for format?

Yes, dtc is right, both internal volume and system volume need to be 100% for some setups otherwise you just hear noise.

You also need to set bitstreaming for DSD in Audio - Settings.

That looks good. How about the volume?

Have you tried Wasapi? That uses DoP but it might show if there is some problem with the ASIO driver.

Volume 100% in app. WASAPI works, maybe ASIO driver issue, No reply from iBasso support. Not super critical, mostly used for travel. I thought we had to use ASIO for DSD bitstreaming?

to make it clear, I hear music just a lot of static.

Plays in other apps:

Windows' system volume has to be set to 100% too. Generally volume in both Media Center and Windows (or macOS or Linux) has to be set to 100% or else you'll just get noise as described. This can be an issue in setups without physical volume control for the speakers/headphones, which I would highly recommend either using a DAC with built-in volume control (e.g. iFi DACs) or add a potentiometer in the chain to control volume.

And you're outputting DoP over ASIO in that app there. Maybe try replicating that in MC or try using WASAPI instead since you're already using DoP.

You need ASIO for playing native DSD. For DoP, the DSD is stored in a PCM container for transmission, so Wasapi handles the PCM just fine. DoP was developed so DSD could be passed without the need of a special driver.

Windows 11 and the app are 100% volume, this dac/amp has volume control.

Not sure why the noise using ASIO driver, should be able to play native? but I'll change to Wasapi and maybe check DSD over PCM box in JRiver, let me look at that. Thank you

When you play DSD over Wasapi it automatically sends it as DoP. Look at Audio Path to confirm.
