Samba
« on: August 23, 2024, 08:08:10 am »

Hello:
Thanks for your MC install note:
A request, please ?
Samba server integrated in to MC just like the X11.
My use case scenario in my house is that no one really sits by the PC with Sony tv attached. We all watch movies using MO4media on each Tvs and also we watched movies outside the house remotely.
So the theater view experience is lacking in my household.
My take on this is to invest in Buzz tv Power station 6.
This is a new Android player. I have the 16gig variant and I have also purchased 2TB NVMe stick with addition 1.5 gig SD card.
Buzz tv tech support wrote me a while ago that very soon I will be able to install Ubuntu 64 bit on the device. In Fact it is a 64 bit player.
This means I can run MC 33 on it. With a Samba server connecting to connected media library, and Samba client installed on Play station 6, I should be able to watch movies via theater view.
So adding Samba server feature to MC 33 will be appreciated.
Regarding your coffee binge, I will try but unfortunately, I can not use Paypal.
So I will write via PM for another method of sending money to you.
Note: My bank does not allow me to use Paypal due to security issues in the past.

Thanks for your support.

Uhhh, handling Samba shares would be up to the OS itself and not MC, if I'm understanding the request correctly. Also this is the wrong topic for such a suggestion.

I was going to post the Samba write up as a response to Bryanc InstallJR posting. How it ended up here is a surprise.
Bryan wrote about VlC, X11 etc, then why not include a Samba help.
Every app somehow depends on the OS.
As I wrote, and if you read carefully, I have installed Samba server on MC32 and later MC 33. I can not test yet because my  client hardware is not ready.
I am going thru RTX 4090 issues, 3 times returned, and later the database is being redone.
All I ask the JR TEAM is to make sure Samba works with MC.
Anyone reading this , fill in to help others.
I see on Youtube, Kodi, Emby all interact with Samba.
No one has written about Samba with MC or MC with Samba.
Thanks.

Sorry Ekpen - it's not clear what your original problem is, that leads you to request Samba? Is you original problem that you cannot access your media library from an outside network? Not sure what the reference to RTX 4090 etc means. I run Manjaro and I have access to Samba internal network resources. But I dont need to use them as the library is set up to use DLNA and library network as per the settings
