Crash on BD menu
« on: August 23, 2024, 10:14:35 pm »

Hello,

MC31 just recently started crashing when I try to launch BD menus.  Log attached.  Can you see what the issue might be?

Thanks!

You have Windows Defender, at least.  Configure it.

Sorry, my reply should have been more comprehensive.  Defender is disabled, "virus & threat protection is off".  This is a dedicated HTPC.

Other troubleshooting I've performed; I've uninstalled and reinstalled MC31.  Uninstalled and reinstalled Java.

Also, to be clear, the crash is evidenced by a windows message "Media Center 31 has stopped working" with the only option being "close program".

Based on your reply, am I correct that the log I attached does not indicate a root cause of the crash?

You could use the trial version of MC33.  If it works, here's how to upgrade at a discount.

I fixed it.  Strangely, MC31 that I had installed in another user account didn't exhibit the crash, so I deduced that uninstalling MC31 and reinstalling it did not replace the registry entries (which are different per-user).  Deleting the entire registry key on the account reset all MC settings (for that user) - but the problem is resolved.

I'll consider upgrading to MC33 if and when the bug is fixed related to DirectSound (while bitstreaming HD audio).  Henrik has stated this is not a focus so I expect that bug remains.

Thanks.

It's probably not a bug.

I am certain you can replicate it yourself.

Set audio device to DirectSound.
Set bitstreaming: on
Queue up a title with HD audio (ATMOS or DTS-X)
Watch the movie for at least 20-25 minutes and you’ll encounter an audio dropout. It will repeat the dropout periodically.

If you set the same parameters in ZoomPlayer or MPC, you will not encounter the dropouts.
