Help with PCM older classic films in DSP studio
« on: September 04, 2024, 02:18:04 am »

I use bitstreaming for all my films and it works perfectly, but Im still a bit unsure when I play older classic films that have to use DSP studio since they are PCM or similar. I want to make sure my subs are playing with these titles but with my ear to the subs I hear nothing.

I have a Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 processor with separate L&R subs and a LFE channel. So in fact this is three channels for subs. The L&R subs play with the front mains L&R and the LFE is separate again.

In DSP Ive always had the Subwoofer set to silent and I hear nothing when playing old classic PCM films from the subs, was silent really the wrong setting?

Tonight I have just changed it to "send all freg to subwoofer (external low pass filter reccomended).... Is this the correct setting for me?

Do you want jriver to upmix to 7.1?

Perhaps I am missing something but why can't you bitstream for these films?

Matt I have to say a HUGE thank you to you!!!!!
I have spent years with DSP ticked on as I always thought we needed it for PCM and Flac audio films even though I bitstreamed.
Tonight I unticked DSP in JR and OMG, it finally opened up those old classic films and WOW, its almost like magic!
My Lyngdorf is now doing its magic on these films and the sound is 100%%% better, I cant believe what Im hearing.

All these years Ive run JR and I never knew this!
Oh dear who would have thought this old dog could learn something new.
Now Im even more happier than ever with JR.

Thank you Matt.
