My first try with Wadia di122 DAC and JRiver on Win10pro.

Hi there.

Few moments ago I did my first try with HiRes FLAC, JRiver and DAC Wadia di122 - all exactly as written in manuals. Somehow it works and I can hear music with some critical drawbacks.

My FLAC has 24bits/196kHz, my Wadia DAC indicates 16/44.1 while playing and some chirps were heard similar to a scratched CD. When the default settings were changed in driver to 24/192 whole music turns to continuous harsh chirp. But why?

The setup for now is: FLAC 24/192, Dell Latitude with Windows 10pro with recently downloaded JRiver, an ordinary USB cable from a box, Wadia di122 DAC, audio grade RCA cables to my amplifier. While playing the same FLAC within my Dell laptop only, JRiver displays "no changes were applied" or something, the DSP Studio settings are all kept by default.

The same record plays perfect if stored in a USB memory whistle and inserted directly into a Primare Prisma network player, and the proper 24bits/192kHz is indicated on my Wadia di122.

Any hints or thoughts will be appreciated.

I would recommend to make sure you're using either the WASAPI exclusive or the ASIO audio output for your DAC set in Media Center's Options > Audio > Audio Device section. If it's using the default output or going through DirectSound it's going through the Windows system mixer.

Looking at the Audio Path during playback can also give a clue what's happening on the device outputting audio with the chirping sounds.

I did with WASAPI, now much better and no chirps in laptop loudspeakers though no sound at all in Wadia DAC.
