Hello -
I'm new to jriver and still finding my way about.
Set up is on Win 11 laptop with a Topping E70 dac.  I very definitely want to use exclusive output but I'm not sure if I've actually set it up correctly.  I've followed the instructions and it does seem to be working, I can see a "blue cog", the path is described as direct.  BUT, when I go into windows/settings/sounds I can actually use the windows sliders to change the volume, and even the relative volume of left and right channels, which seems to suggest that windows itself still has some control over the sound.
I'm confused.  Can anybody help me.  Perhaps I havn't understood correctly.

What audio output is Media Center set to use in MC's Options > Audio > Audio Device? For exclusive mode it should be WASAPI or maybe ASIO if it supports exclusive mode for PCM (which most don't).

I tried both.  First WASAPI, then I installed Topping's own driver on the laptop which then shows up in MC as an ASIO device.

Can you show a screenshot of your MC Options > Audio section? Maybe the Audio Path too (the blue cog that shows what's happening during the output). Also, is exclusive mode enabled in MC when using WASAPI for your E70? I can tell you Topping doesn't use exclusive mode for PCM with ASIO so if you actually want exclusive mode, WASAPI is the way to go.

Make sure WASAPI is used for the E70 in MC's Options > Audio > Audio Device then click on Device settings and in that window make sure Open device for exclusive access is checked/enabled.

Ok thanks, I'll uninstall the Topping driver, and go back to the WASAPI option and report back.  I can confirm that "allow exclusive access" was enabled in both cases.

I wonder, could you or anybody else running Win 11 check to see if the channel balance sliders (System/Sound/Properties) affect the output in exclusive mode???

The System/Sound/Properties will affect the output from MC, and anything else that produces sound - setting MC to use exclusive mode prevents anything else from using the Audio Output Path MC is using.
