Question about ISO playback
« on: November 19, 2024, 12:04:27 pm »

I have a number of ISOs in my library. When I select one to watch JRiver auto-mounts the ISO and plays it.
If I have to stop playback for one reason or another it remains mounted. If I select the same ISO to restart playback it doesn't start playback, instead I get a windows explorer window showing the content of the mounted drive.

Is there a way to get JRiver to either unmount the file on stop, or to have it realise that the file is already mounted and to play it?

Just nudging this.

Can anyone confirm this behaviour or is it specific to me? It's easy to test. Choose an ISO in your library to play, have it start playing, stop, double click the same item. Do you get it playing, or do you get a windows explorer window.

I've disabled all the autoplay stuff in windows that I can find but it still does it.

Are you using stop and not just pause?

Are you playing from within MC and not from Explorer?

If from MC, where are you starting?

Definitely using stop, not pause and definitely within MC.

In the library view -> movies, or Theater view (behaviour is the same), I select and click on a movie to play it. First time it all goes fine.

Click stop, the application reverts back to the previous view.

Choose the same movie and select it to play again. I get the explorer window showing the contents of the disc.

This is the same whether I use the native tools, or if I have daemon tools installed. This is on a clean install of win 11 but it's always done it for me, from <v30 and win10 I believe.

If I choose play from the drives and devices when the disc is mounted it works, and I think I can navigate to a sub menu within theater view to play the mounted disc as well, but it would be nice to be able to not have to remember and to just select the movie from the library.

Would it be possible to use the new ShellRun command in the after playback expression to help here?

I'm thinking that, on stop, unmount the disk that's in the drive. Is there a command for that within JRiver?

MC never ejected an ISO at the end of the playback. It's always strange to see the surprised replies when this is reported, again and again.

Say thank you that it did not mount the disc in two separate discs like it used to do. See here for example.

But that's not my issue?

My issue is that if I play a disc, then stop that disc, then try and play it again, I can't. All it does is open an explorer window on top of JRiver.
Maybe it's just me but it would be great if someone could confirm.

Steps to reproduce:

Select an ISO file in theater view, choose watch.
Let it mount and begin playing
Stop playing
Select the same file and choose watch

Does it play for you, or do you get the explorer window?

Merry Christmas!

As far as I know, in JRiver Media Center all the ISO mounting and handling is done with Windows and its system components. Maybe it's an Explorer issue of some type?

Does this behaviour not happen for you then?
