This is a repost of a problem I was having with 8.0.388. If you are using the Mozilla browser (from http://www.mozilla.org not Netscape), and you have MJ handling Windows Media, and you click on a link to launch a media stream, MJ displays a warning box with the folllowing message: "Please select file(s) to play". If you let WMP handle Windows Media, then everything works fine. Also if you use IE 6.0 or Opera, MJ launches the stream with no problems.

I have setup shortcuts to Windows Media asx files for my favorite internet radio sites in the task bar. In the shortcut settings I have the "run:" option set to minimized (versus normal window and maximize). I have the MJ startup mode in last exit mode. I start up MJ, minimize it and then exit. When I use the taskbar shortcut to an asx file, MJ opens up in Mega-Me mode.

If, however, I open MJ, minimize it, exit and then use the taskbar shortcut to MJ itself, it opens up in minimized mode.

Also, If I click another shortcut while MJ is running (MJ is running minimized), it switches to the new station and stays minimized.

MJ is configured to minimize to system tray.

Media Jukebox has been crashing repeatedly, usually when I am modifying the track list of a CD that was not found in YADB.

I get the following error:

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff9db61.

When I get this error, I can close and re-open.

This is a repost of a problem I posted once.  post number is 1036731366.  I posted the problem independently since it happens on not only MJ 8 but also MJ 9.  I'll write problems of MJ 8 only, here.

MJ8.0.393 doesn't work correctly with Japanese (SJIS) tags.  I noticed 2 kinds of problems, so write them down here.

 1. If a file name or some directory has \134 code as a part of it, importing this file will be failed.  \134 code is backslash character in ASCII.  However, it may be a part of 2 bytes or 3 bytes character.  For example, \217\134 is single Japanese KANJI character.  So, please stop to treat \134 as a special character.

  2. If an album name or author name contains some Japanese character, Media Library failed to show grouped songs.  For example, if an author name contains \201\105 (this is also single Japanese character), MJ doesn't show any songs under this author's group.  Another example, if an anbum name contains \220\174\213\103\216\322\202\305\215\163\202\261\202\244 (these are 7 Japanese character), MJ doesn't any songs under this album's group.  Songs are actually imported since I can list them when I clicked "Artist/Album" button.  I everytime, show all songs, sort them, scroll to songs, mark songs of an album I want to listen, sort them by track#, then finally click play button.   :'(

Many people listening Japanese songs won't use MJ because of above problems.  I also stopped using MJ for listening these days.  jriver asked me to write the problem here, so I posted.  Although I haven't received any response, I'd like to use MJ if it supports Japanese characters.  Wish you hear my request this time.  Thank you.

In addition, there was no problem with MJ7.  However, I cannot download any APE plugins for MJ7 anymore, so I cannot get back to MJ7.  Is it possible to distribute MJ7 plugins again?  Thanks.

Another problem.

If a song has 32 as its track number, MJ8 shows its tracknumber as 0.  Is this known problem?

In addition, #33, #34...#36 tracks are recognized well.  I don't have any CD contains more than 36 tracks. ;)

Hey guys...

Having a bit of trouble with 393 on W2k SP3. Stuck in my Mulholland Drive CD...clicked on CD's & handhelds...MJ went to YADB for a lookup...MJ crashed (4 consecutive times). The only thing opened before MJ was EAC. First attempt was at 8:30AM CST.

I'll try it again.....same result (see post time)

10-27

PS: Followed own advice....have latest of everything

edit > Closed EAC, tried it again...it worked (8:55AM). Mere coincidence, I believe. Was YADB down this morning?

My system:
Athlon XP 2200+
Abit KX7-333
512MB pc2700
Radeon9700 Pro
Hercules Game Theater XP (with latest drivers)
Promise Ultra 100TX2 PCI IDE expansion controller
Realtek 8139 10/100 NIC
Windows XP w/Service Pack 1

The problem:
Whenever I play any of my MP3's the sound always comes out wavy, poppy and otherwise distorted. The problem lies solely in MJ because the same MP3's playback fine in Windows Media Player and Winamp. This has been a problem for awhile and I've never seen anyone post about it. I had the same problem on a prevous system using a different motherboard (so that rules that out), but using my Game Theater XP. Is there a known problem with MJ interfacing with the Game Theater's drivers (or the Promise Ultra100TX2)? I love the sound quality of MJ and can't stand using anything else for audio! One of the early betas of MJ 9 didn't have this problem, but there were other errors so I deleted it. Even after disabling all the sound enhancing features and memory hogging effects, the problem persists. There isn't enough configurability in MJ's MP3 plugin to troubleshoot the problem.

MJ doesn't even play MP3's after I changed the responsiveness slider using Directsound.

Update: I uninstalled and then reinstalled MJ and it fixed the problem. I can deal with having to uninstall and reinstall everytime, but I wish someone could pinpoint the problem. Directsound still doesn't work at all, but so long as waveout works and without the distortions, I'm happy. Time to uninstall Winamp!

MPC files created with MJB, get an error when trying to prosses them for replay gain.
The Error window reads:
ERROR: Broken frame encountered. Please re-encode or re-download the file (if possible).
After six times clicking the OK of that warning, It claculates the right replay gain.
MP3 files don't exibite this errarta.

I have a couple of issues with 8.0.393. I am not sure if they are general or related to this specific beta:

1) RATING NOT STORED IN ID3 TAG

If I right-click on a mp3 and select sendto -> rating -> (number) the rating is only stored internally and not in the mp3 file. If this is a configuration option I have overlooked, please tell me how to find it.

2) IMPORT FROM NETWORK-MAPPED DRIVES NOT USING UNC-PATH

I have a network drive with music (ie. \\192.168.1.1\music). For convenience when using other tools I map this to the drive letter H:. This drive letter may change in the future, and therefore I import music using the complete UNC-path.

If I choose import from windows explorer from drive H: the song is imported with the drive letter instead of the UNC path.  Perhaps it's a "feature not a bug", but I would prefer UNC-paths were always used for networked material.

The system is w2k sp3.

crasher,

Does the file host have a name?

In MJ, when I do the Tools>Import Media thing...I enter \\stevo\ogg (my ogg files directory). This method doesn't rely on IP addresses or mapped drive letters and retains it from one MJ session to another.

The format is \\<computer name>\<shared directory name>.

As long as you keep that shared dir name attached to your music directory, then MJ shouldn't break no matter in which drive the directory is located. I'll verify this later today and edit this post with the results.

10-27

edit > Map an unused drive letter to the UNC string (ie: X: => \\stevo\ogg)

kingsparta:
Is there any plans to support rating tag in id3 using MJ8?

xen-uno:
The format you describe is in fact the unc (Universal Naming Convention ) format  ;D. What I want is MJ to discover a local path (ie. D:\mymusic) is in fact referring to a UNC path (ie. \\myserver\mymusic).

please help....

I noticed recenly that when I select the internal lame encoder and select CUSTOM then click ADVANCED I no longer get the command line option... it only shows normal, high speed, high quality.

I am was using 8.0.378.  I had to reinstall and went with 8.0.393.  MJ went out and downloaded the lame dll from the plugins section and now this.

I have went back to various different versions of MJ and the same thing happens.  It seems to be a problem with the plugin its self.

Does any have any ideas???

You need to pick MP3 Encoder VBR, then you can do the alt preset thingy and other options. True for ogg, mpc, and other VBR formats as well.

Thanks for replying xen-uno.

I have tried selecting MP3 Encoder VBR and picking custom quality but when I click Advanced it comes up with another drop down menu for Normal, High Speed, High Quality, not the command line box.  I have done it with ogg and the others and the command line works fine.  It just seems to be the mp3 vbr that isn't working for me.

I just uninstalled and re-installed.  I selected mp3 vbr and MJ went out and downloaded the plugin.  When I select custom it still does not give me the command line box, however the other plugins like ogg do.

Thanks for any help

I installed the MediaJukebox 9 beta after mistakenly beleiving the email that said that I could upgrade, only to find that the program had no MP3 encoder and then unexpectedly expired a couple of days later.  According to another thread on this BBS, that would be "for my protection".  Of course, after this fiasco, I decided to scrap MJ9 and return to version 8.

Upon my return to MediaJukebox 8.0.393, I found that I had to re-import all of my music, as version 9 had converted the DB without saving a backup.  At least I now have a MJ setup that will play music.

The problem now, and the reason for this article, is that whenever I insert a CD and click on the "CD & Handhelds" area, MediaJukebox promptly crashes and spits out the following:
Code: [Select]
MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module MEDIA JUKEBOX.EXE at 015f:005bc08f.

Will this be fixed, or am I expected to pay to "upgrade" to MediaJukebox 9 now?

By the way, I'm using MediaJukebox 8.0.393 on MS Windows 98.

Regarding B393...

Definite instability on YADB lookup if it can't find a match. Burnt a custom (mixed) track CD...burn went fine (works beautifully with Yam F1 drive)...ejected CD...reinserted to check a track or two...YADB tried to perform a lookup...message pop-up: CD not found...MJ CRASH.

Restarted MJ...did a lookup...same as above w/o crash
