HDR more muted than SDR on projector
« on: January 03, 2025, 06:07:31 pm »

Using MC32 with an integrated Intel GPU (i5-12600H processor).

I recently noticed that HDR movies look less vibrant than SDR. Some of them even have a slight “fog” to them.
I verified that my projector is switching into HDR mode for the content so perhaps there is something wrong with tone mapping.
After reviewing the standard Video settings I don’t think I have any tone mapping enabled in JRiver.
I tried several different Video modes, switching from Red October JRVR to Standard and even the high performance one.
The output looks basically the same with all of them.

The general description of HDR talks about enabling pass through mode but I don’t see any control with that exact name.
I attached a screenshot with most of the video settings just in case I missed something obvious.

I tried restarting the PC but that had no effect.
So for the moment I am back to watching HDR movies in SDR mode on the projector.
