Can I still run older versions of MC on the same machine?
« on: January 09, 2025, 08:53:59 am »

Can I still run older versions of MC on the same machine and not have it interfere with the current version?

I was wondering if I can use older versions of MC and use it for my Video library instead of my music library.  I would only use it for films that I have and both versions would never run at the same time.

The older version's library could be named entirely differently form the main library that I use for my music.

Many thanks.

Sure, but any particular reason why you'd want to use an older version for video? Newer version should always be better thanks to JRVR, LAV filter, etc. improvements.

the reason for using older versions is that I can then keep my video and audio libraries completely separate from each other.

I don#t want to clutter up my audio library with Video files and vice versa.  Just for the sake of convenience really.

What benefits would "JRVR, LAV filters" have?  I mean i just want to use it as a means to browse through my film library, nothing else really. Something like a netfliks type of way of seeing what films I have.  I don't have a netflix or other streaming account as I'm perfectly happy watch in stuff I have in my own library.

Why not use one or two portable installs of MC33 instead?

For video always having the latest JRVR and having the latest LAV filters would be a good thing.

I think that you would be better off creating a separate audio and video library then switch back and forth between them as desired within the same most recent version to have the benefits of the new tech and functionalities.

I have a Hi-Rez library for my 24/96kHz or up music, a FLAC library for the 44.1kHz, and my video library. Easy Peasy to set up.

The video improvements that AD mentioned apply to your own files not just any streamed stuff.
