How can I exclude files on a Media Server?
« on: January 15, 2025, 03:39:07 pm »

Hi

Under Media Network configuration there is a menu item called Rules for included files. I took for granted that using this I could exclude files I don't want to share on the network. For example, if I share my library with a friend, but want to keep my home/family videos for myself. I tried making a rule that said Genre is not any and then x'ed off the genres I don't wanna share. It did nothing. I tried accessing my Media Server from JRemote on my phone to test, and all genres were still there.

I tried to do the same under Customize views for JRemote, Gizmo and Panel... -> Video -> Set rules for file display, but this didn't work either. I still see all genres under Video in JRemote.

So how do I hide files I want to keep in my Library, but don't want to share with others who I give access through the network?

I tried looking at the Wiki, but I didn't find anything there. It looks like it's years since it's been updated. The images show old versions of MC, and is lacking many of the menu items in the current version (33).

Once you change the views for JRemote, Gizmo ... you should shut down MC and restart it, and possibly reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. That insures that the changes are incorporated in the Media Server process.
