Music just stops playing
« on: February 03, 2025, 09:02:35 am »

I have JRiver installed on a PC on the second floor of my home.  It's connected to the network through wireless, as my router is on the first floor.  I have a Yamaha AVR hardwired to the router.  I use DLNA to get the music to the AVR.  Recently the the music just stops playing like halfway through a song.  I have done a soft reset of the AVR.  I have also reset the router and restarted the PC.  It will work for a while but the problem comes back.  This is a fairly new new PC,  and I did have some initial issues with the PC losing wireless connectivity to the router.  But when the music stopped this time,  I came up and checked the PC and it was still connected.  So I'm not sure what's going on.  Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
Thanks

Probably not the issue, but when you check the PC Server, do you find it awake or asleep?

Renderers, including good standalone DLNA targets, should keep the server awake.  This was fixed several versions back, but to be sure, you can easily watch Servers & Plug-ins > Reporter > Power on the server while it is playing, as seen in the attachment.  The two Power status lines shown appear automatically once play starts.  For some devices, you may see these messages expire and renew as tracks change.  I don't believe there are any special Options settings required beyond the usual stuff for DLNA renderers.

Server: Win11 Pro 64-bit

Thanks for responding.  I don't see the same options you do under the Power menu

These are not "options"  :) . The Power section shows up and normally gets automatically populated with Information when the Server is actively broadcasting music to a networked external renderer.  As another example, I see the same thing when MC plays over wi-fi to an old Google Chromecast Audio dongle using DLNA, in this case via a BubbleUPnP Server "bridge" to Chromecast.

I would be surprised if this does not happen on your system.  The Power info is dynamic.  You may need to LMB click on Power to show/hide its entries or Refresh the display (button at left end of the View Tabs header or keyboard shortcut <F5>).  If still not seen, maybe something to do with the architecture of using a wired connection between the AVR and router, or the AVR's implementation of DLNA, or other DLNA settings and Controller Options in MC.

Did this ever work reliably for you in the past?
Are you using a Remote app to control the playback?

Thanks so much for taking the time!  This is much appreciated.  This setup has pretty much worked flawlessly for about 5 years now.  I am using the Musicast app on my phone as the controller.   Issues I have had in the past is the music is inaccessible because the PC is asleep.  But that is easily solved.  I am currently using an older Yamaha AVR  (RX A3060)
So far today, it hasn't happened.  I listened to Miles Davis Kinda Blue, all the way through and it worked fine....Go figure.  There are other streaming apps in the AVR I use - Tidal, Pandora, Sirius and internet radio with no problems.
