This probably sounds silly but there’s lots of my favorite music which I find can sound more enjoyable when using a pitch or varispeed control to reduce the tempo to between 3 and 7%; sometime as much as ~ 9%-even though the pitch is not preserved.

Circa 2010, someone gifted me the Samplitude PRO X a powerful music production DAW platform, though which I only used for applying the real time pitch down shifting when playing my rips of CD tracks. But that was on an old Windows XP desktop and I would need to have it on my Windows 10 HP ZBook. I still have the Pro X product key to download it but don’t want to risk that old version not working and then having to uninstall it and thereby losing that big block of non-rewritable storage space on my system SSD drive.

Samplitude is notorious for its steep learning curve but at least I was able to find and use the real time pitch control knob from its transport control interface easily enough.

Having used Pro X forever, it’s tempting to go back and get the new version, assuming the varispeed's easily accessible. Samplitude’s varispeed always sounded very transparent to me. But might there now be other options with equal or better sound quality?

I doubt that most here would have much need for a tool like this, especially since it's not intended to preserve pitch while changing the tempo. But would you happen to know if JRiver can do "tape deck like" varispeed in real time but with zero impact on sound quality? If not JRiver than some other Windows player, plugin or DAW?

Have you tried the Tempo & Pitch plugin in the DSP Studio within MC?

No, I don't have JRiver installed yet. But does it have a transport window for playing the audio file and a  varispeed slider inside it? And does it work in real time? Please try this with a high quality WAV or FLAC file. How is the sound quality on a 1 to 10 scale?

Btw, when you buy a license how many pcs can I install it on? At least two I hope.

Yes, there are sliders.

You can install a fully functional trial for 30 days before you have to purchase. Visit https://www.jriver.com/purchase.html for more information about licensing. I don't think there's an issue installing it on 2 computers in your home on the same network, there hasn't in the past.

The Tempo options is under DSP Studio when you select your audio output device - Tools - Options - Audio - Settings.  There are three options  - changing speed without changing pitch, changing the pitch without changing the speed, and changing both temp and pitch. Give it a try.
