Video Improvements
« on: March 12, 2025, 06:43:24 am »

There has been kind of a pause on video improvements such as further enhancing DTM for HDR sources. I would really like to continue to support JRiver, and would be looking for new video improvement features such as (auto) non-linear-streching, AI video enhancements, etc.

This is exactly what I'm hoping to see in V34. I want to get rid of MadVR since it is really resource hungry and also has a timebomb.

+1. I would like to see a way to define the exact coordinates of P3/BT2020 supported by a given device (like a projector) as part of tonemapping, like we can do with MadVR.

And I hope one day we will see improvements to DV support. Right now I'm using special CoreElec private builds with Ugoos device to get full FEL spport on specific titles.

DV FEL support would be fantastic, and might appeal to several other users to start using JRiver!

Good luck with that one, anything adding support for that is likely going to get sued into oblivion by Adobe.

What does that mean exactly?

Yeah, how exactly does madVR have a timebomb? First time I've ever heard that one.

Beta versions have an expiry date after which they stop working

The 'release' builds don't have a timebomb, correct? If that's the case, probably best not to use beta builds then?

If you like ancient software with bad tone mapping then sure :)

Put another way, if you are interested in current video formats, your options are beta builds and hope they get renewed and hope that it continues to work as windows evolves or use jrvr (hence why people ask for features that madvr has because they want those things in supported, actively developed software)

Last official release was like 5+ years ago

Noting that the upgrade special is close to ending for 34, will we know beforehand that there will be any significant improvements in JRVR?

I would love to see JRVR support HDR 3D LUTs when doing HDR to HDR tonemapping, as discussed here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,140886.0.html

A feature like "SVP" does would be awesome. I think it is called High frame rate (plays video with 24 fps with 60 fps for example).
