JRiver vs Home theater receiver (Denon)
« on: March 14, 2025, 10:24:44 pm »

My Denon AVR does all the things JRiver does.
Where does MC shine? Playback of 2 channels. I am drawn to MC for the ability to play multi channel music derived from a 2 channel source. I’m able manipulate the sound in each channel volume, crossover, equalization, delay to taste. Not an Atmos signal but very good considering 2 channels source.

1. Stereo play of 2 channel on hard drive in PCM goes to JRiver better sound manipulation capabilities
2. Spotify UI better with JRiver (and also better sound manipulation capability.)
3. Video (Amazon, Netflix, etc) streaming goes to Denon because of source multi channel support for Atmos and all its brothers. I’m not sure Atmos and brothers is a real improvement maybe a little smoke and mirrors. But I have 7.2.4 channels.
4. Playing different audio streams with different video goes to JRiver. Just can’t do this without a computer.
Score JRiver 3 Denon 1
JRiver is qualitatively better, quantatatively Video streaming is what I use my Home Theater Entertainment System for. Can I say upfront I’ll never stop listening to JRiver as I am using at this very moment?
Certainly I am missing something?
