I’m encountering an issue with JRiver Media Center 33 where there is a 1-2 second skip at the start of a track change in playlists. This skip does not occur during consecutive track transitions within the same album. My setup uses WDM as the signal path and outputs to a Denafrips Pontus 15 DAC. I'd like to understand what could be causing this and how to resolve it.

If you haven't done so already, try this. Go to playback options and set the stop, seek, and skip options to Standard, Immediate, and Immediate. Under track change, make sure switch tracks is set to gapless, which should be set by default. Do not play silence (leading and trailing) should be unchecked as well.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference with audio only streams, but try setting your buffering to 10ms under device settings. If it's already set to this or a lower value, just disregard this step.
