Media Server
« on: August 18, 2003, 01:36:49 am »

Can anyone tellme how to use this feature? The built-in help isn't very helpful. (I'd like to access my music from work, but have no idea how to proceed...)  Thanks in advance!

You can probably find more info here by doing a search (specify 200 days or so).

Run it on your server.

Connect to it from a second PC.

Trying it is the best way to learn.

Of course that presumes a certain level of knowledge.

Am I correct in my deduction that MJ (or MC) must also be loaded on the distant PC?  If that's the case, it's no good to me since I can't load any software on the LAN at work...

You must have the same version of MJ or of MC running on both PC's.

You might want to look into (the somewhat daunting for non-nerds) task of setting up a Shoutcast Server to stream your tunes, as you likely have a copy of Windows Media Player already installed on your work machine. You can manage your tunes in (the wonderful, fantastic, excellent, superb) Media Center, but create playlists you can stream from a basic Shoutcast Server setup. See the Shoutcast Site for more details.
