'LAV Splitter' File Failure Error
« on: April 17, 2025, 05:57:33 pm »

Unable to play video files since installing MC20 on a new Windows 11 PC.  I receive a "Failed to download and install 'LAV Splitter' filter.  Check your network connection and permissions." Playback Problem message.

Checked my Windows firewall and Defender settings, and enabled all of the MC executables, both in and out.  Not seeing anything being blocked in my network settings.

Checked the LAV folder, which was empty after installing MC20.  Manually copied the files extracted from  lav_v37.zip to the LAV folder to no avail.

Did not have this issue with my Windows 10 PC using the same network hardware (i.e., modem; router) and IP provider.

Attached is a log file for anyone who might be able to decipher my problem.  Thanks in advance for any constructive feedback.

Why would I risk paying for an upgrade if I cannot install the proper plugins with the current version I own?

It costs nothing to try.

Please explain how I go about doing this without paying first and avoiding any conflicts with the MC20 currently installed?

Just download and install it. It works.

Okay, I just installed v.33 that was offered as a trial, when I found the right page to find this particular link.  The "upgrade" you suggested I try only provided me with a pay-in-advance option.

I am able to view my video files via MC33.  But it begs the question, "Why does an MC20 installation not install properly, but no issues with MC33?"  Has the MC20.exe been crippled to force you to upgrade?

Your log is incomplete and shows Windows 10 as a platform and that you're running a 32-bit build of MC, both of which are very out-of-date. Software gets old and ages out, that's just the way it works, no conspiracy necessary.

I guarantee you that the improvements, especially in regards to video, are well worth the upgrade cost.

As I stated in my initial post, I recently purchased a Windows 11 PC that was giving me issues when installing JRiver MC20. I'm not sure why the log file I attached seems to be a carryover from my previous install on my old computer, which I replaced.

I'm concerned about why MC33 had no problems downloading and installing all of the required plugins on my new Windows 11 PC, but failed when attempting to download and install MC20.  To my knowledge, JRiver has not announced that older versions are no longer compatible with Windows 11.

Probably related to this: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,136204.0.html

It could also be related to HTTP vs HTTPS used in links in older versions and/or related to the recent server migration, potentially.

You would think downloading and installing an older version would be considered "Core functionality will work, but cover art and CD lookup will fail."
