Background information:
I quite recently learned that from F7, F8 and F9 (at least on a mac keyboard), the F8 key (usually) functions "accross" applications, to start / stop video. I recently tried to do some research on this topic, because I wanted to find a way to start / stop video (youtube e.g.) while I was transcribing or taking note in another application (TextEdit app, obsidian, just to name a couple). While researching it was brought to my attention that the F8 key (usually) does this. (I also regularly use plain logitech keyboards, some even with specific media keys, and they behave similarly on mac)
Now to JRiver Media Center:
It appears that the same applies for JRiver Media Center. This however poses a problem: while e.g. JRiver is processing media files (import) and I am working on transcribing / taking note on youtube or other lecture video material, JRiver will start / stop playing music as well.
This is of course not what I want, and the only way to avoid this happening is to close JRiver alltogether.
In the wiki I have read that there are ways to assign keys in some way, but I would prefer not to go there as it seems more complicated, and I would first of all get more familiar with JRiver and it's plentitude of capabilities.
So, the question:
Is there a (easy) way to disable JRiver from reacting to the F8 key while not having focus?
Thanks for helping out!
