Sort order for movies in standard view
« on: April 28, 2025, 06:27:22 am »

Is it possible to get MC to stop paying attention to leading punctuation marks in movie titles that include symbols like ' or ( and just sort on the first alphanumeric character in the title instead?  I know, the simply fix is to remove the punctuation but I'd like to keep it in the title.

MC can ignore articles.  It's a setting.  Options page has a search window.

You guys have thought of everything!  This got me 99% of the way as it appears to work for articles but not punctuation marks.  I'll delve into it a bit deeper on my end.

Having a separate ignore characters option to handle things like punctuation marks and other common characters might be a good addition. Personally, I like seeing the articles but I don't really like seeing things like " and ' and ( at the top of the list so having a separate option to ignore those would be very appealing for me.

We already have that functionality, search the options for Articles and you'll see a list.  You can add stuff like ' and " to it and it will ignore them and if you don't want it to ignore "a","an" or "the" just remove them.

It didn't work for me.  I tried to add a -  '  - to the list and the sort still put that file at the top of the sort.  The file in question is 'klute'

CORRECTION:  It did work for me!  I failed to tick the check box.  Thank you to everyone!

As I have several clients looking at the one server, it would be nice to have the program save and remember the "ignore articles" settings and list across all clients possibly saving it as a system-wide setting.

Did you try the following:
After you've made changes on the Server machine (and verified they are working on the Server), go to the Client machine and RESTART JRiver MC... The Client should pick up the changes.

Note: This doesn't work for things like Audio or Video settings, or JRVR settings, or startup settings, etc.

Thanks tzr916.  I probably should have modified the server first but, as luck would have it, I left it for last.  If I have the need to modify the settings once again, I'll try the server first and then restart the clients to check it out.
