Author Topic: Confounding issue with adding a library either via access code or IP address  (Read 55 times)

I have a situation where I have my library server on a PC with an IP address ending in .026.  From a client, I attempt to add this library either by access code provided by the media server or via the IP address of the computer.  Oddly, when I attempt to add the library, this client goes out, for some reason, to an IP address ending in .146 and, of course, fails to connect after several retries.

I am wondering why this client seems to have an affinity for IP address .146 when the only other library in the system is the main, empty one on the default location on the "C" drive?

Are 026 and 146 on the same network?

026 is alive and well.  There is no .146 currently active because when I ping that address, I get no replies back and looking at the router's connections confirm this.  Maybe there is something wrong with the configuration of the server's NIC.  I'll have to check it out.

Does MC use IPv4, IPv6 or both?

IPV4

Are they on the same network?  Your inside network probably has addresses assigned by DHCP like 192.168.0.026.  Your outside network would be different and might not work at all if you didn't provide forwarding from your cable modem.

Network Access on the wiki explains more.

All the computers on my network are static.  I found my issue:  For some reason, the network interface card on the HTPC hosting the server did not have IPv4 enabled but only IPv6.  I was wondering why I could ping .026 but not get at it and, I guess, that was the reason.
