How can I fill properly the image tag?
« on: January 14, 2003, 12:11:16 pm »

I have about 4000 tracks in WMA format.

Each album is stored in an individual folder. Each folder contains also a image called "folder.jpg". This image is the coverart's album.

Question.

How the hell can I import the coverart into the MC9 library?

I think I've tried everything, but I can't find the answer. I dont even know if you plan to support this "configuration" in your final release. Do you?

Best regards,

Polonio

That should work.  You can find a more recent build at the top of this board.

MC should show any jpg art that's in the folder.

I think the problem is about some information stored in the image tags. The tag contains a path, but that path does not exists any more.

I follow this steps and the old image tag is not removed. So I think something is not working. Here are the steps I follow:

1) I select all album's songs.
2) I go to the "Image" dialog, and click "Tools/Remove". Then, the old tag is deleted from library. Apparently, file tag is also removed, but it is not. (If I delete the file from library now, and reimport, old image tag remains).

3) I go to "File properties dialog" and click on "Tools/Update tags (from library)". The old tag file is still not removed.

It seems clear to me something is not working.

Well, finally I find a procedure to delete this tag. Here are the steps I follow:

1) I select all album's songs.
2) I go to the "Image" dialog, and click "Tools/Remove".
3) I click on  "Tools/Remove Tags"
4) I click on "Tools/Update tags (from library)"
5) I delete the album from library
6) I reimport the album

I am not so confident to do that to my complete library with a beta version. I'll wait for a better solution.

It seems only while reimporting MC looks for a image in the album folder. Right? At least, I do not find an option for find cover art in HD. (Get it from internet, and offline, does not work).

I hope  this helps to make up a better piece of software.

Best regards,

Polonio

Thanks.  That could be a bug.  We'll check it tomorrow.

That could be a bug.

If you have to look at this, you could add a simply functionality which I think would be very appreciated by XP users, and not only XP users.

MC Coverart's folder could include two option:

1.- Absolute path (just like now)
2.- Relative to song's path.

This second option would permit to automatically save coverarts getted from internet to the appropiate folder location, so XP will recognize album's coverarts without user intervention at all.

Furthermore, I think information would be more organized and more robust to user configuration (no absolute paths included). Actually, I don't see the point to save abolute paths into files tags (What if I burn it into a CD? What if I offer them to someone?). I guess some guru could see on it a privacy issue, if not a security hole.

Regards,

Polonio

PS: I am not 100% sure, but I think MC deletes coverart files under certain circumstances as someone said. At least, I've lost some ones, and I don't remember myself deleting them.

Someone should write a script that copies any "folder.jpg" images that we have into the folder that MJ/MC uses to sore cover art.  Of course, each image would have to be renamed.
