A request for more visualization support
« on: January 10, 2003, 01:45:33 pm »

I've been using MJ for quite some time now. MC9 is a indispensable tool as far as my HTPC goes. Nothing comes close to it and all it's functions. The only stickler I've had with it is the limited visuals for it.

I've just checked out some of the new stuff out there for winamp and it's simply amazing what those guys are doing with 3d acceleration. Three that I've come accross are

Milkdrop http://www.geisswerks.com

Triplex http://www.tripex.co.uk/ very nice 3d effects

and
R2 Extreme http://r2.rabidhamster.org/ You HAVE to check this one out!

I can't begin tell you how much of a "wow" factor I get from friends and family when I show any of those three up on my 48" RPTV.

I've read the previous threads about contacting the authors to port them over to MJ and MC, but so far I have had no response from any of them. And I just don't see it happening, if it hasn't already. Milkdrop has been out there for some time now, and still no port or any news of one.   :'(

If you don't mind my asking, what is it that prevents you guys from allowing Winamp visuals on MJ? Is it legalalities? I can understand that and support that. I just think that MJ could gain a lot overnight if you just allowed them to be used. ;)

But, alas, I'm sure there are reasons a'plenty why it hasn't been done. I just wanted to give the topic one more plea from a happy MJ user, that just wishes it was possible.

Thanks for your hard work guys!  ;D

We came close to getting Soren, author of Acidspunk, to make an MJ version, but it's been long enough now I don't think he's going to.

I believe the author of Milkdrop works for AOL/Winamp now.

We would love to have better support from some of these stars, but I'm afraid they are going to have to be convinced by their fans.

That is what I thought. I'll just go back to emailing the authors. :) There may be some luck yet.

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply!
