LAN audio cast
« on: April 23, 2003, 09:59:54 am »

im having a lot of trouble broadcasting audio around my LAN, partly because of different versions of mcentre (mine is 9.0.149) and i get errors when listening to mcentre 8's broadcast, and it cant hear v9 because its to new!
How is it suposed to be set up so that the whole LAN can listen to a broadcast?
is mcentre compatible with other programs? if so, which ones?

If mcentre is Media Center, then make sure you are using the same version on all machines.

By broadcast, do you mean that you are using Media Server?

I don't think that Media Server supports streaming (i.e. one-to-many broadcast) like you describe. Media Server just makes the library available to a remote copy of Media Center. The user running Media Center has to decide what songs to play.

Basically, in my experience, Media Server doesn't work unless it's exactly the same version as Media Center (or Media Jukebox for v8). You've got to have the same version installed on both machines.

if you have the latest MC9 it does

MC 9.0.161

I can also stream it to my Tivo Via Wierless Network, Since I Have A USB Adapter Hooked To My Tivo2 System.

How do we do this exactly? I'm running MC 9.0.180. When my friend on the LAN connects to my Media Server, he can see my Playing Now queue, but getting the audio in sync (which is necessary, as we're in the same room) doesn't seem possible.

...and it won't be without very good ESP capabilities (to minimize the latency that occurs between the brain and the lungs/vocal cords and ears to brain on the other end). As the name implies, it serves media, but doesn't broadcast it. I take it you want to run a pseudo quadrophonic setup (more accurately dual stereo)?

edit: nevermind...you said streaming. I'm not aware of any version of MC that passes a stream (other than TIVO...maybe?). What it can do is have a multizone...which simply allows it to drive more than one soundcard.
